Shepton Mallet Prison ‘B-Wing’ Project

I am currently co-curating a project titled B-Wing with artist Fiona Campbell. B-Wing is a multi-disciplinary arts project set in the unique spaces of B-Wing at the infamous Shepton Mallet Prison. Site-responsive artworks, texts and performances will be created by artists and writers for an exhibition during Somerset Art Weeks Festival, 21 September-6 October 2019.

The project is supported by:

Lottery Funding from Arts Council England

Hauser & Wirth Somerset

Shepton Mallet Town Council

Somerset Community Fund

We have had so much encouragement and support for the project from the local community, historians, press and our project partners, Somerset Art Works and Jailhouse Tours.

Artworks including sculptural installation, textiles, light, film, sound, photography, performance, text-based work and poetry will transform B-Wing through new challenging work, confronting current political and environmental issues, while reflecting past histories. The project is co-curated by Fiona Campbell and myself featuring our work and selected artists/ performers Lou Baker, Geoff Dunlop, Rosie Jackson, Lucy Large, Alice Maddicott and Scott Sand- ford, with invited one-off guest performances. Artists will use the research-based project to collaborate with each other and the community, and develop their practice.

More information about the project can be found on the B-Wing website.
