I am currently co-curating a project titled B-Wing with artist Fiona Campbell. B-Wing is a multi-disciplinary arts project set in the unique spaces of B-Wing, at the infamous Shepton Mallet Prison. Site-responsive artworks, texts and performances will be created by artists and writers for an exhibition during Somerset Art Weeks Festival, 21 September-6 October 2019.
We have had so much encouragement and support for the project from the local community, historians, press and our project partners, SAW and Jailhouse Tours. We are in the process of submitting an ACE bid for funding and are truly grateful to Hauser & Wirth Somerset, and Chrisi & Simon Kennedy who have pledged their sponsorship.
“Artworks including sculptural installation, textiles, light, film, sound, photography, performance, text-based work and poetry will transform B-Wing through new challenging work, confronting current political and environmental issues, while reflecting past histories. The project is co-curated by Fiona Campbell and Luminara Star featuring their work and selected artists/ performers Lou Baker, Geoff Dunlop, Rosie Jackson, Lucy Large, Alice Maddicott and Scott Sand- ford, with invited one-off guest performances. Artists will use the research-based project to collaborate with each other and the community, and develop their practice, mostly using recycled and found materials, considering waste.”
If you would like to find out more about the project, please visit the B-Wing website. All sponsors will be publicly listed on our website and social media platforms. We are extremely grateful for any support people are able to offer.
