Colour Your Mood – addressing loneliness project

‘Colour Your Mood’ was a 10 week project commissioned by Seed as part of their ZOOM Clubs program to use creativity to address loneliness caused and/or exacerbated by the coronavirus containment measures

The project’s primary aim was to enable more people to actively engage in the creative arts, particularly those who don’t usually do so. To seek to remove barriers to participation, increase opportunities for people to see and engage with the arts, and for the arts to become a part of everyday life.

I designed the ‘Colour Your Mood’ project to promote a sense of wellbeing while allowing participants to experiment with a wide range of simple art materials and techniques including cut and paste collage. There is no wrong or right way to create art in Creative Journaling! Participants were given a new colour each week as a prompt to work with. Together we explored the Moods, Memories and Feelings each colour invoked using visual materials and found text as mediums for participants to add their creative responses to their journal pages. A brief history of each colour was also presented.

During the sessions participants were encouraged to share their feelings and thoughts throughout the process of responding to each colour, creating a sense of togetherness and community.

It is so wonderful to experiment and not worry about making mistakes.”

I am using my journal to remind myself to practice Self Care and to remember good things in life. I miss my grandchildren so much and I loved creating a page in my journal about them.”

Thank you for this Zoom Club I am enjoying it so much. It is something to look forward to every week.”

I have written down all the new techniques I have learnt over the last 10 weeks and counted them. There are 22!
